GET PUBLISHED! Submission Guidelines:
All CHC freshmen (even those not enrolled in the “Get Published! Aspiring Authors,” “Write to Live: Today’s Poetry,” or “Visual Arts: Finding Yourself as an Artist” CHIPs) are invited to submit their original creative work for feedback and publication in Ephemera‘s first-ever Fall Freshmen Edition!
Submissions must sent to hcartsjournal@gmail.com by or before Friday, November 11 of Week 7, while students whose work is accepted must return this release form to the Ephemera mailbox in Chapman 320.
General Submission Criteria:
1. Submissions should be sent as attachments to hcartsjournal@gmail.com by the Friday, November 11 deadline.
2. The subject line of the email MUST contain “get published.” Submissions not containing “get published” in the subject line will be filed as general submissions and will not be considered for publication until spring.
3. The author’s name should appear in the body of the email, but NOT in the attachment (i.e. anywhere within the piece itself.)
4. The filename of the attachment should be the first few words of the piece’s title, followed by “gp” and the date of submission, e.g. “ilikecats.gp.10.20.2011.”
For Prose:
1. Use .doc or .docx formats.
2. Pieces must have a title and a date of submission at the top of the document.
3. Pieces must be double-spaced and in a standard font, with 1-1.25” margins and page numbers.
4. Pieces must not exceed 2,000 words (about 7 pages, double-spaced).
5. Only two stories per student will be considered.
6. All genres, including but not limited to fiction, non-fiction, and prose-poetry, are welcome, as is all subject matter.
For Poetry:
1. Use .doc or .docx formats.
2. Pieces must have a title and date of submission at the top of the document.
3. Pieces must be single-spaced, in a standard font, and have 1-1.25” margins. They should be formatted exactly the way the artist wishes them to appear in the final publication.
4. Poems must not exceed 35 lines.
5. Students may submit up to five poems, but the total length of all their submissions must not exceed 70 lines.
6. All genres, content, and formatting (if reasonably reproducible in print) are welcome.
For Artwork:
1. File formats can be somewhat trickier in art than other media, but use .JPG if possible.
2. Include the piece’s full title in the body of the email to which it is attached, as well as including the abbreviated form in the filename.
3. All pieces must either be created in black and white or transfer well to greyscale.
4. Make sure images are reasonably scaled and high resolution.
5. All mediums and genres are accepted: pencil or ink drawings, paintings, photography, pictures of three-dimensional art, etc.
Please contact hcartsjournal@gmail.com before the Friday, November 11 deadline with questions, and good luck GETTING PUBLISHED!
