Visual Arts: Finding Yourself as an Artist

Jayati Ramakrishnan Visual Arts: Finding Yourself as an Artist

Professor Susanna Lim Fridays 2:00-2:50 p.m. CRN 13256

How many times have you heard the phrase, “I’m not artistic”? Maybe you think it applies to you, and that is fine. Art is not everyone’s strength. However, everyone can benefit from it, and the Visual Arts CHIP is here to show you how to do just that!

We will have a few opportunities to experiment with certain mediums, and to see local examples of visual artistry, including the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on campus, the Maude Kerns Art Gallery, and the Eugene Saturday Market. We will visit the UO Craft Center on a regular basis, so that students can discover the incredible resource available to them right on campus.

The goals of this class are simple: Find what you love about art and discover how to maximize your skills in that area! The assigned book for this class will be: Victoria Finlay’s Color: A Natural History of the Palette.

This CHIP will be collaborating with Ephemera on the GET PUBLISHED! Project.

Text: To Be Announced. This course will use a text during the fall term, not summer. Text will be announced in mid-August and available for purchase in the Duckstore by September 16th, 2011.
