About GET PUBLISHED!

What is the GET PUBLISHED! Project?

The GET PUBLISHED! Project is a new collaboration between the Clark Honors College’s creative writing, modern poetry, and visual arts-themed CHIPs. These CHIPs have partnered with Ephemera, the CHC Creative Arts Journal, to introduce incoming freshmen to the CHC by producing and publishing students’ original creative work. The GET PUBLISHED! Project encourages:

  • Student Creativity by inviting students to explore their individual creativity and produce outstanding original work.
  • Student Collaboration by engaging student leadership, involvement, and initiative to get their work published.
  • CHC Community by preparing students to contribute to the creative communities on campus, including Ephemera and Unbound, throughout their college career.

How does the GET PUBLISHED! Project work?

CHC freshmen interested in exploring the literary arts scene on campus, the publishing process, and their own creative potential should register for either the “Get Published! Aspiring Authors,” the “Modern Poetry: Write to Live,” or the “Visual Arts: Finding Yourself as an Artist” CHIPs. Students in these three CHIPs will work to brainstorm, create, and critique their own and each others’ creative projects, ultimately producing a piece of original creative work. While students in the three GET PUBLISHED! Project CHIPs will receive extra opportunities for creative mentorship and hands-on engagement in the publishing process, all freshmen are encouraged to contribute!

Students will submit their finished masterpieces to Ephemera to be considered for publication in the Fall Freshmen Edition, the first-ever issue to exclusively feature freshmen work. Each student will receive feedback on their submission(s) from Ephemera’s editorial staff, and every student will engage in the publishing process. By the end of fall term, all GET PUBLISHED! students will have seen their name in print and be prepared to share their creative vision throughout their years in the CHC.

For information specific to the “Get Published! Aspiring Authors,” the “Modern Poetry: Write to Live,” or the “Visual Arts: Finding Yourself as an Artist” CHIPs, please see the course descriptions, or contact CHIP Leaders Alex Fus afus@uoregon.edu, Anna Tomlinson abt@uoregon.edu, and Jayati Ramakrishnan jayati@uoregon.edu, respectively.

Apply to join Ephemera’s staff! Students who wish to gain even more direct experience in publishing the Fall Freshmen Edition should consider joining Ephemera’s editorial team. Read about the different staff departments, then apply here.

Can all CHC freshmen GET PUBLISHED!?

Yes! While students in the three GET PUBLISHED! Project CHIPs will enjoy extra opportunities to develop their artistic and literary talents, all CHC freshmen are encouraged to produce and submit original creative works to Ephemera by (or before!) Friday, November 11th, for consideration in the Fall Freshman Edition. For submission guidelines and ways to get involved beyond fall term, please see Ephemera‘s website.
